The site for the propsed track is the old burning ground between the rec' and the park at the back of the depot. The proposal was one of a number of suggestions for Cheam Park that came out of consultation on improvments that residents wanted to see in public spaces in the area. The track suggestion has been feateured in the Sutton Guardian, and a two week exhibtion of all the proposals for the Park was held in Cheam library. Many of these projects are well underway such as imporving the paths around the park, resurfacing the car park and improving the tennis courts. The proposal for the track is being actively supported by Sutton Cycling and British Cycling. Both these groups want to provide an organised coaching programme for children at the track. The track suggested is a small grass and dirt "humps and bumps" race track aimed at upper primary/lower high school age children. The site at Ashtead that Mrs Eskenazi mentions is a much larger skatepark/trick riding venue with half pipes and bowls. We recognise that some local residents have expressed concern about the track and so a public meeting will be held in the next few weeks. The meeting will allow concerned residents to meet the cycling proponents and for concerns to be aired. The meeting will be advertised, including at the site in the park.
